

An Aboriginal man named 'Gaiarbau' (Willie
Mackenzie), born 1873, spent three years as a teenager visiting neighbouring
tribes to learn their ways of living and their boundaries.
Back around the 1950's Willie Mackenzie advised anthropoligists of the tribal
boundaries, as shown below. Fraser Island is shown below in yellow.
Over the years some tribal names have come to receive different
spellings.
Dulingbara nowadays is often spelt Dalungbara, and Badjala is often spelt
Batchala (or Butchulla).
