On the 8th November 2003, under the directions of Elder John Dalungdalee Jones, Dilli Village was repossessed from the Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service for the Aboriginal Peoples of Fraser Island.
A monument was erected in remembrance of this special occasion.
Dilli Village is now to be known as the Dalungbara Cultural Centre, which is an entity of the aboriginal university of australia, Dalungdalee Trust.
The Centre lies on the southern portion of Fraser Island and is on Dalungbara Aboriginal property.

The house at Dalungbara Cultural Centre
At present this house is used for some of the QPWS rangers.

The Dalungbara Cultural Centre is comprised of one house, 12 huts and an amenities block.
This photo is of one of the rooms in one of the huts.
Each room can house 2 guests, each hut has 4 rooms so the Cultural Centre is able to house up to 96 guests.

On the17th November 2003, under the directions of Elder John Dalungdalee Jones, signs were erected, and the huts were to be prepared for use by the traditional (possessory title) owners.

There are 12 huts/cabins available for use.
Some will be form our People and some for tourists.

It is unfortunate to advise that our monument and signs (shown below) were stolen in late 2003.
Would anyone having information on this theft please contact us.

Also, our Trustee, the Queensland Parks & Wldlife Service (QPWS) is trying to frustrate our efforts to fufill our aspirations by proposing to rent out our huts, without our permission, to the Sunshine Coast University.
We will vigorously fight this shameful and raciually suppressing proposal by QPWS.
Refer further below for a public notice from QPWS about their proposal to rent out our huts.

Public notice released by the Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service.
