Andrew Barton "Banjo" Patterson
1864 - 1941
"Banjo" Patterson was
one of Australia's greatest poets. In the late 1800's it was customary for
authors to publish their works under a pseudonym ( assumed name ).
The name "Banjo" came from the name of a race horse, owned by his
family, and had nothing to do with the musical instrument. The poems "
The Man from Snowy River" and " Brumby's Run " were written
somewhere between 1885 to 1900.
